Sales Policy

Sunset Knoll reserves all rights at first selection for each kidding and will be determined after kidding.   Sunset Knoll also reserves the right to cancel any sale or reservation at any time.

Goats are a herd animal and are happiest (and easier to live with) when they have fellow goats to live with.  I will not sell just one goat unless you can prove you have more.   If you do not have another goat already, wethers make wonderful companions to another doe or buck.  Wethers are also wonderful pets and do not go through the hormonal cycles of does nor do they have the pungent smell of bucks. Available wethers can be purchased as companions for a discounted rate when purchased with a doe or buck.

Health:

We test our animals annually through Washington Animal Disease Diagnositc Labratory (WADDL at WSU) for CL, CAE and Johne's Disease and continually receive negative results for those diseases.  All kids sold will be disbudded, tattooed, have 2 CD&T vaccinations, and have their hooves trimmed.   The herd is dewormed on an "as needed" basis based off of fecal testing and kids receive regular prevention for coccidia.  Animals will be healthy at time of pick-up however, because we can not control the stress of travel and the animal’s management and/or environment after it leaves our care, we can not offer further health guarantees after leaving the farm.  Purchasers have the right to a full veterinarian exam at his/her expense on any animals purchased before they leave our care.

Wethers are banded at approximately 10-11 weeks of age and ready to leave for their new homes a week or two after that (I like to ensure that they are healing and that both testicles are showing signs of castration prior to departure).

Our herd is tested annually for CAE/CL/Johne's disease and continues to test NEGATIVE (lasted tested December 2019).

Registration:

All doelings and few bucklings will be sold already registered with the ADGA and a Certificate of Registration will be provided with the animal at the time you pick him/her up.  Most bucklings will be sold as unregistered wethers.  Occasionally we may have a buckling worthy of keeping in tact.  We choose these bucklings based on proven mammary systems, pedigrees behind the buckling, and the conformation of sire, dam and buckling.  For this reason, bucklings from first fresheners will be wethered.  First fresheners still have some maturing to do in order to know if their genetics are consistent and worthy of being passed on through a buck.  If you are interested in a buck from a particular breeding pair, please contact me.  If you are considering the purchase of an intact buck, a deposit will be due prior to castration so don't delay!  Castration typically occurs between 10 and 12 weeks of age.

Reservations:

Please note, I keep both a Wait List and a Reservation List for does and bucks (wethers are only Wait List).

The Reservation List takes priority over the Wait List as a deposit is required before a kid is born.  The Reservation List is reserved for those who wish to specify the breeding(s) they'd like a kid from.   Once a kid of your choosing is born, you will be notified.  In the even that a doe/buck is not born from the breeding of your choice, the deposit will be refunded to you.  You may also choose to remain on the list for another breeding (space permitting) or forward your deposit to another year.

The Wait List is simply a first-come first serve list AFTER those on the Reservation List.  I will notify people in order as animals come available after I go through those on the Reservation List.  The Wait List is FREE until kids are born.  Once you are notified of an available kid you will have 72 hours to confirm that you want to reserve that kid and then a deposit is required to hold that kid until weaning.  If I do not hear back from you and/or do not receive your deposit I will assume you are no longer interested and move on to the next person.  You also have the choice to remain on the list and wait to view the next available kid.

Deposits:

A deposit of $100 is required to hold any doe or buck ($50 per wether).  Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE.  If YOU choose to back out of the sale before it is finalized (either purposefully or because you can not pay for it or pick it up within the agreed upon time frame) YOU FORFEIT YOUR DEPOSIT and the animal will be relisted for sale.  Deposits are refundable under the following circumstances:  if you placed a deposit before the kid was born and the gender you desired was not born; if the kid dies before pickup; we have determined the kid unfit for sale; or if we choose to cancel the sale.

Deposits may be transferred to another goat if one becomes available that you prefer.  Deposits may also be carried forward to another year if a kid of your choosing was not available and you still prefer a kid from a particular doe.

The remainder of the balance on a reserved goat will be due at the agreed upon time of pick up.  Kids are ready to leave once weaned (at approximately 12 weeks old).

Payment:

Cash and PayPal are welcomed for deposits and/or final payments; personal checks are not accepted.

Selling Your Sunset Knoll Goat:

Should you ever choose to sell your goat obtained from us, we request the courtesy of First Right of Refusal.

Here are our guidelines for a good home:

  • As mentioned, goats are herd animals and we require that they have a buddy, preferably of a similar age and size.

  • A securely fenced yard of adequate size where the goats will have plenty of room to run and play. Exercise is critical for maintaining appropriate weight.  Goats love to climb and to get onto things, many people offer large used cable spools, build decks or old children's play structures for their goats to play on.

  • A sturdy draft-free shelter to provide protection from harsh weather and predators, with fresh bedding of straw or shavings. It is essential to the health of the goats that the bedding be cleaned out and replenished frequently.

  • A properly balanced diet is imperative to maintain good health. This includes a feed ration specifically formulated for dairy goats, good quality leafy hay (such as 2nd/3rd cutting Orchard Grass or Timothy - alfalfa is a great source of nutrition for does in milk), and lots of fresh water.  Clean, fresh water; mineral supplements; and hay should be available "free-choice" at ALL times.

  • A yearly visit by a veterinarian for a well check and annual injections of CD/T and Bo-Se (if you are uncomfortable injecting these yourself).

  • Regular hoof trimming (every 4 to 6 weeks).  Proper hoof care reduces the risk of injuries and helps prevent diseases like laminitis and foot rot.

  • Parasite Control (Deworming) - We strongly recommend having fecal tests performed at least twice each year. Parasites can become resistant to dewormers and the fecal test will show whether or not you need to use a different product to treat whatever parasites are indicated.  Veterinarians offer fecal testing but there are also some online resources that are often offered at a more economical rate than many veterinarians.  Those resources can be found on the FAVORITE LINKS page.
